WISH = SOUHAIT :

WOULD LIKE = ‘D LIKE:

j’exprime un souhait , il est possible qu’il se réalise.

ex: I’d like ( = would like) to talk to her = j’aimerais lui parler

REGRET:

I WISH + PRETERIT MODAL:

on exprime un souhait mais on sait qu’il est irréalisable: c’est un regret

ex: I wish I could talk to her = si seulement je pouvais lui parler.

Le PRETERIT MODAL n’exprime pas une action passée mais l’IRREEL:

                il sert à exprimer un voeu, un souhait, un regret.

ex: I wish they understood = si seulement ils comprenaient.

It’s time you invited her = il est grand temps que tu l’invites.

If I were rich, I would buy a big car = si j’étais riche, je m’achèterais une grosse voiture.
