COMMENTER UN DOCUMENT

I. INTRODUCTION:  IDENTIFIER LE DOCUMENT: What is it? = Qu’est-ce que c’est?

A. DOCUMENT VISUEL:

1. Définir la nature du document: 

a photo/a painting( tableau)/a cartoon( dessin humoristique)/an advertisement (publicité)...

2. Origine du document: from a film/a newspaper/a magazine/a book/TV....+ la date + le pays + l’auteur

3. De quel ensemble fait-il partie?:uniquement visuel/avec titre/légende/texte/slogan....

4. Sujet général de l’image:

5. But de l’image:

HELP: this document is a photo/a painting/a cartoon /an advertisement...

It is taken from a film/a magazine/a newspaper... It was published in +date . 

The film was released in + date... The film was directed by + name of the director

B. DOCUMENT ECRIT

1. Définir la nature du document:

extrait de roman/poème/pièce de théâtre(= extract from a novel/poem/play)

article de journal (= newspaper article)

2. Origine du document: book/magazine/newspaper + le titre + l’auteur + le pays + la date

3. Idée générale du texte:

4. But/intention de l’auteur: raconter une histoire( tell a story) /critiquer (criticize)/convaincre (convince)...

HELP: this text  is an extract from a novel/a play . This text is a poem/a newspaper article

The title of the document is...  It was published in a magazine/ a newspaper .

It was written by + auteur   . It was written in + date      The text is about ...... The text deals with...

The author wants to tell the story of..../ wants to criticize..../ wants to convince us that.....

II. DECRIRE LE DOCUMENT VISUEL / RESUMER LE DOCUMENT ECRIT

A. DOCUMENT VISUEL: What does it show? = Que montre-t-il?

1. Que voit-on? :  qui fait quoi?ou?quand?comment? pourquoi?les causes? les conséquences?

Il faut donc situer et décrire le ou les personnages et leurs activités

2. Que peut-on déduire, supposer, imaginer?:Faire des suppositions sur les personnages

Imaginer ce qu’ils se disent . Que s’est-il passé avant/ à côté? Que va-til se passer après?

HELP: the document is composed of a photo/cartoon....and a title/a text/a slogan..

The document shows (=montre)... on the right/left ...at the top/at the bottom...  in the corner/in the middle

next to the title ... under/above the title...  between  ...  in the foreground/in the background..

Describing people: he/she is + age; he/she is tall/small/fat/thin/strong  ; he/she has got long/short hair

he/she has got blond/dark/red hair  ; he/she is wearing jeans/trousers/a tshirt/a shirt/a coat/ a hat...

B. DOCUMENT ECRIT:

1. Chercher les difféntes parties du texte et leur donner un titre

2. Résumer les éléments principaux: who/where/when/what/why/how?

HELP: The first/second/third  part of the text is about...  The scene takes place in  +lieu/date

III. ANALYSER LE DOCUMENT VISUEL/ COMMENTER LE DOCUMENT ECRIT

A. DOCUMENT VISUEL: What does it mean? = Que veut-il dire?

Il faut répondre à cette question de façon objective/neutre

1. Quelle est la fonction du document?

- il exprime une opinion à propos d’un évènement

- il vise à convaincre, à faire prendre conscience d’un problème

- il est simplement informatif

2. Mettre le document en perspective:

Dire ce que l’on sait du contexte historique, géographique, économique, politique,sociologique, moral, légal, technologique, écologique.....

HELP: the editor/cartoonist/photographer wants to make the reader think about......

he wants us to understand/realize that .......the aim of the cartoonist/photographer is to ......

the cartoon aims at showing/describing/convincing/denouncing....  the document shows/suggests....

the slogan aims at .........

B. DOCUMENT ECRIT:

- pourquoi les personnages agissent-ils ainsi? quels sont leurs sentiments/émotions?

- évolution des personnages: que vont-ils faire ensuite?pourquoi?

- évolution de l’action: que va-t-il se passer? pourquoi?

- intentions de l’auteur

- réactions du lecteur

- le style: quel est le narrateur? quel niveau de langue est utilisé? quel lexique est utilisé? quelle est la syntaxe: phrases courtes/longues? à quel temps? rythme général: lent/rapide/enlevé; effets de style: répétitions/ allitérations...rhétorique: images/métaphores/comparaisons

IV. CONCLUSION: EXPRIMER SON OPINION

A. DOCUMENT VISUEL: What does it mean to me?

Il faut répondre de façon subjective.

- le document m’amuse/m’intéresse/me choque

- il est bien fait/mal fait

- quel effet peut-il avoir sur d’autres personnes?

HELP: what I like/don’t like about the document is ..... what I find interesting is that...

in my opinion/to my mind/I think/I believe...

B. DOCUMENT ECRIT:

- j’aime/je n’aime pas...  pourquoi?

- je me sens concerné/pas concerné par le sujet/ les personnages
